Anti-encroachment drive to start at circular railway land today

KARACHI: The anti-encroachment operation on the land allotted for the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR) will start from Tuesday (today), ARY News reported.

The operation against encroachments at the railway land allotted for KCR was scheduled to start from yesterday but Joint Director of Land Railways Imtiaz Siddiqui said that authorities have granted the people occupying the KCR land an additional day to vacate their shops and homes.

The time, however, ended today and the encroachments at the KCR land will be removed by the anti-encroachment personnel from today.

The authorities in the first phase would initiate the operation from the furniture market to remove encroachments in Karachi’s Ghareebabad area, officials said.

Joint Director Land Railways said that all encroachers have been issued notices for removing illegal encroachments. In the first phase of the drive, all shops established at the railway track will be demolished. “We don’t want losses to any person but constructions on the railway track are illegal,” the official said.

In the ongoing anti-encroachment operation in Karachi all illegal structures were demolished in the vicinity of Al-Asif Square area in the city yesterday.

It is pertinent to mention here that Prime Minister Imran Khan, on December 5, had directed the attorney general of Pakistan to file a review petition on the top court’s order to remove all encroachments across the metropolis.

The Supreme Court on October 27 had directed Mayor Karachi, Wasim Akhtar, to remove all encroachments from the city’s amenity plots and pavements with the help of law enforcement agencies, and granted a 15-day deadline to city authorities for compliance of its orders.
