A peace-loving country

In a joint parliamentary session, PM Imran Khan offered the release of the captured Indian pilot as a peace gesture. The PM reiterated that Pakistan didn’t want war and that India should consider engaging in a meaningful dialogue with Pakistan. Government representatives and opposition members praised the armed forces and vowed to stand united against any aggression. On Friday night (March 1), Pakistan officially released the Indian pilot who is now in India. The way PM Imran Khan has behaved in the crisis is extraordinary. Almost every country is praising Khan for his mature stance. Pakistan has sent a clear message to India that even though it has the capability to strike back, it doesn’t plan to start war.Imran Khan Borana ( Khushab )*****It is an undeniable fact that the Pulwama attack has increased tensions between India and Pakistan. One of the deadliest attacks in decades, the Pulwama attack resulted in the death of around 40 Indian soldiers. Instead of initiating investigations into the incident, the Indian prime minister accused Pakistan of orchestrating the attack. Instead of providing substantial evidence to prove its claim, India entered into Pakistan’s airspace. India’s clear violation of international borders provoked Pakistan to respond. It shot down two fighter jets and captured one pilot which was later released as a peace gesture. At a time when the elections are near in India, the Indian PM is using such tactics to seek another term. After the last India-Pakistan war in the 1970s, both the countries had to meet economic challenges. For the sake of the region, the two countries must stop fighting and figure out a way to resolve their disputes.Nizar Jan ( Turbat )*****I was very impressed by the wise approach taken by our PM to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan. The release of the Indian pilot will go a long way in showing that Pakistan is a peaceful country which doesn’t want to get involved in any sort of conflict with India. Imran Khan has shown that we want peace in the region.War brings with it a series of casualties, destruction and a dying economy. Both countries, which are marred with economic challenges, cannot afford to enter into war.Naveed Abbas Maitlo ( Islamabad )
