ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Tuesday gave the go-ahead to the construction of high-rise buildings in order to cater to growing population in Islamabad, ARY News reported.

Chairing a meeting here, the prime minister approved an amendment to the relevant building laws with regard to the construction of multi-storey buildings in the federal capital and directed that measures be taken to secure green areas to fend off the challenges posed by ballooning population.

He further directed the civic authorities to take measures to cater to the growing need of housing in the capital and stressed the need for the construction of high-rises as per the laws.

PM Khan instructed that multi-storey buildings should not be erected in the sensitive areas and directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to identify such areas within ten days with a caution that the number of these areas should be limited.

He further directed the CDA to formulate laws with regard to the construction of high-rises and expedite the process of the designing of buildings.

Separately, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired another meeting to review progress on utilisation of Auqaf and Evacuee Trust properties for welfare purposes.

The meeting reviewed progress on optimum use of these properties for public welfare projects regarding education, health, shelter homes and public parks.
