Some elements trying to pull country back into confrontation: COAS

MULTAN: General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on Friday said, “Some elements are wittingly or unwittingly trying to pull the country back into confrontation,” Inter Service Public Relations (ISPR) reported.

According to details, the COAS visited Multan Garrison to observe the training demonstration on combat readiness by an Armour Formation of the strike corps.

While speaking to military officers, he stated that the state shall not allow any element to create a confrontational environment “whether in the name of religion, ethnicity or any other pretext.”

“War against terrorism and militancy is not over yet,” COAS said

“War against terrorism and militancy is not over yet. Besides kinetic efforts we have to take on measures to address the root causes while staying cognisant of inimical forces and foreign hostile agendas,” he remarked.

The COAS also interacted with officers of Multan Garrison and said that after kinetic operations, “we are now into the phase of stability operations.”

Further sharing his thoughts on security situation of the country, challenges and the response, General Bajwa continued that within the folds of national action plan, “we shall support national focus on socio-economic development so that people of Pakistan reap dividends of improving security.”

Peace, stability and progress of Pakistan were contingent upon rule of law by all, the COAS stressed while also underlining that an Army deters war through professional competence and readiness.
