ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Saturday said that endorsement by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for opening of Kartarpur corridor is a great diplomatic triumph for Pakistan.
In a statement, he said opening of Kartarpur corridor was a long standing desire of the Sikh community of India as a number of religious sites in Pakistan have also attraction for them.
The foreign minister said that the PTI government wants good neighbourly relations with India and to engage New Delhi on all forums without being oblivious to the core issue of Kashmir.
About China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said there is a complete national consensus on this mega project in Pakistan because it is an engine of economic progress and development for the country.
He remarked that China also considers Pakistan’s economic stability and this all weather friendship would further grow in future.
The foreign minister said China has always helped Pakistan and with the CPEC, the strategic partnership has entered into a new phase of economic cooperation between the two countries.
Regarding Afghanistan, Shah Mehmood Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s desire for peace and stability in that country and said Pakistan also wants China to play its role in resolving the Afghan issue keeping in view its prominent position in the region.
