KAULA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said remittances sent home by overseas Pakistani help run the country, ARY News reported.
Addressing the Pakistani community in Kaula Lumpur, the prime minister who is on two-day visit of Malaysia urged them [Pakistani community] in Malaysia to send remittances through legal channel in order to help boost the country’s finances.
Highlighting the recent financial crunch facing the country, the prime minister said talks are underway with friendly countries and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to get funds for payment of loans’ installments.
“Government is trying to get as minimum loan as it could from the IMF,” he continued.
He said that the current government’s priority is to get investments from abroad to guide country out of the present crises.
Lauding the steps taken by Malaysia to curb money laundering, the premier said that nobody could involve in money laundering here in Malaysia, which is quite unlike the case in Pakistan, “Malaysia is lucky to have a leader like, Mahathir Mohamad who rooted out the corruption from the country.
“We will make money laundering very difficult for people in Pakistan,” reiterated the PM.
Earlier today, Pakistan and Malaysia had signed an agreement on partial abolition of visa for travel between the two countries.
In a statement, the Malaysian Foreign Ministry said the two Prime Ministers – Mahathir Muhammad and Imran Khan – witnessed the signing ceremony after talks in Kuala Lumpur.
Besides, Pakistan and Malaysia had also agreed to enhance cooperation in various fields, including trade, privatization, investment, and food.
