Japan announces ¥510 mn aid for polio eradication in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: In an effort to eliminate polio, Japanese government on Monday announced to provide ¥510 mn aid to Pakistan for procurement polio vaccine.

According to the details, the agreement for the grant was signed in Islamabad between the government of Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).

PM’s Focal Person on Polio Eradication Babar Bin Atta acknowledged and applauded  the commitment by the Japanese government against the disease. He also expressed PTI government resolve to make Pakistan a polio-free state. He said Pakistan’s polio eradication campaign was rated among the best public health service delivery initiatives across the world.

Whereas health ministry spokesperson said that the funds will be spent for the procurement of 25 million doses of oral polio vaccine (OPV).

“Japan is providing every possible assistance to Pakistan for polio eradication.” said Japanese ambassador on the occasion.

Minister for National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kiani and other officials were also present on the occasion.

PM Imran reiterates his resolve for a polio-free Pakistan

It is pertinent to mention here that PM Imran Khan had reiterated his commitment with the federal and provincial governments towards polio eradication on November 9, adding, it was a national cause and every effort would be made to make Pakistan a polio-free country.

He had expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the National Task Force on Polio Eradication in Islamabad, which was attended by the Minister for Health, Amir Kiani, Governor KP, Shah Farman, Chief Minister Punjab, Usman Buzdar, Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, CM GB Hafez-ur-Rehman, Chief Secretaries of the provinces and the representatives of the Polio Partner Agencies.
