PM Khan says he desires to take tough decisions

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said stabilising the country’s economy is a big challenge.

Speaking to a delegation of the Council of Business Leaders in the capital, the prime minister said they wanted to take important and tough decisions to improve the economy.

Finance Minister Asad Umar, PM’s adviser on commerce, textiles, industries and investment, Abdul Razak Dawood, and Governor State Bank of Pakistan were in attendance in the meeting.

Various matters pertaining to economic challenges, the government’s measures to address them, and development of trade, agricultural and IT sectors were discussed during the meeting.

The prime minister said all stakeholders will be taken into confidence over decisions pertaining to the economy.

The ruling PTI is facing a wave of criticism over its decision to seek an IMF bailout package to put the economy back on its track.

The finance minister in an interview had said the government had to take the decision to approach the International Monetary Fund (IMF) because of the high current account deficit as a result of the wrong economic policies adopted by the past government.

Referring to his meetings with the IMF officials in Indonesia, he said both the sides had expressed the desire that it might be the last bailout package for Pakistan.
