LAHORE: Reacting to a fresh fiery speech of ex-party member Nehal Hashmi criticising state institutions, senior leader of PML-N, Rana Sanaullah, says the statement given by Hashmi could be in his personal capacity and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has nothing to do with it.
Hashmi, a sacked member of the PML-N, surprised several quarters after he stated at a gathering today that the armed forces of the country couldn’t reclaim an inch of land. He stirred up a hornet’s nest when he went on to say that an atom bomb and F-16s were just for show-offs.

In his remarks, Sanaullah said the domain of Pak Army was to protect the country, rather than reclaiming someone’s land. ‘An unfortunate event took place in Bangladesh which was triggered by political fallout, he added.
He stated that how could the party take action when party membership of Hashmi had already been suspended. He recalled that the party leader was sacked after he had refused to leave his senatorship after those controversial remarks targeting the judiciary.
He said one could disagree with institutions but that was not the way to register a protest.
If Kashmir issue was resolved through war, then it would’ve been done by now because we have fought three wars as of now, the PML-N leader said.
He was of the view that all differences could be hashed out through talks and negotiations.
The Supreme Court on Feb 1, 2018 had announced its reserved verdict in a contempt case against Nehal Hashmi, awarding him one-month jail term and a fine of Rs50,000.
Hashmi had apparently threatened the Supreme Court’s appointed Joint Investigation Team (JIT) members for interrogating Nawaz Sharif and his family members pertaining to their foreign properties.
The video of threatening speech at an event in Karachi went viral on social media and eventually drew instant reaction from the Supreme Court on May 28, 2017 after Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar took suo motu notice of the incident and summoned the former PML-N Karachi chapter leader to appear before the court.
In the video, Hashmi was seen warning opponents and officials of state institutions’ of dire consequences over conducting an investigation in line with the Supreme Court’s Panamagate verdict.
“…Currently you are on service, but tomorrow you will retire and we will make your life miserable,” Hashmi was heard in a video addressing workers at a party event.
